Castles, Churches and other buildings
France has about 40,000 castles, from a kind of large country houses to old knight fortresses. We mention a few here in the near and further surroundings.
Culan (about 15 km)

A sturdy castle that unfortunately cannot be visited at the moment. A buyer is being sought. They still expect about € 10 million in maintenance.
Chateau de Meillant (about 45 km)

Not to be confused with the Castle, which was rather hysterically exploited by the Meiland family on Dutch TV, nor with the town of Chateaumeillant, which is located 5 kilometers from our village of Neret. We'll sometime have to find out how that is historically.www.chateaudemeillant.fr
Chateau de Sarzay (25 km)

A real knight's castle with outbuildings that the owner has been restoring on his own for more than 35 years, without the help of local, regional or national authorities. And he clearly states that too.www.sarzay.net
Chateau d'Amboise (about 160 km)

A beautiful castle in a beautiful garden. Quite a bit further away but easy to combine with a visit to the rather large city Tours.
Chateau de Valancay (about 100 km)

We found it a bit disappointing inside, but a nice lunch on the terrace of the coach house makes up for it. www.chateau-valencay.fr
Chambord (about 150 km)

A lot further away but this castle is so big that it covers about 3 provinces.www.chambord.org
Guedelon (about 160 km)

In 1995 the plan arose to build a castle from scratch using the old building methods. The castle is being worked on daily as it would have been done in the 13th century. A short drive, but perhaps combined with an overnight stay in the beautiful town of Sancerre on a hill between the vineyards. www.guedelon.fr
Cathedrale de Bourges (about 70 km)

A huge cathedral in the rather large city of Bourges (also for shopping).
Abbey of Noirlac (45 km)

An impressive abbey. A visit can easily be combined with the garden of the Prieurie d'Orsan, a beautiful large monastery garden. That is about 25 km on the way back to the house.
